No e-toll cost estimate for officials
The Gauteng Finance MEC says spending on e-tolls will be calculated “soon” by each department.
JOHANNESBURG - There is no estimated cost yet on how much the province will spend on state vehicles once e-tolls are implemented, Gauteng Finance MEC Mandla Nkomfe said on Tuesday.
Earlier in October, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters announced that e-tolls will go live before the end of the year.
Nkomfe says spending on e-tolls will be calculated "soon" by each department.
The Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) has abandon its fight against the system in court after it lost its case in the Supreme Court of Appeal earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) is still encouraging motorists not to buy e-tags, saying it will continue to take to the streets to show its opposition to the tolls.
