NSRI frees Humpback whale
Authorities have managed to lure the young whale out of the Table Bay Harbour and back into the ocean.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape sea rescue officials have spent much of the night trying to free a young Humpback whale that was trapped in Table Bay Harbour.
After several failed attempts over the past few hours, authorities managed to lure the injured mammal out of the docks.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's (NSRI)'s Craig Lambinon says a huge effort was put in.
"Remarkably the whale followed us and so we instructed the tugboat to go out to sea and the whale followed."
He says they will monitor the port and nearby beaches over the next few days.
"Based on the fact that the whale is very disorientated and appears to have some damage to its mouth area."
