CAPE TOWN - Three people have been arrested for public violence after human faeces were thrown outside the Sanlam Building in Bellville, Cape Town police confirmed on Friday.

It is understood 30 people, some of them believed to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), held a protest outside the offices on Friday morning.

The police's Frederick van Wyk says three people have been arrested.

They will appear in court on Monday.

"Three suspects, all from Khayelitsha, were detained for public violence and attacking police officials."

Sanlam spokesperson Ainsley Moos explains why they think the protest erupted.

"The incident is related to a dismissal of a contract employee earlier this week. This person was contracted via a labour broker. This person's contract was terminated and the person was not happy."

EFF has been unavailable for comment.
