Zozo murder suspect abandons bail bid
A man accused of murdering a woman for being lesbian has appeared in court.
JOHANNESBURG - A 22-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering Duduzile Zozo in Thokoza earlier this year has abandoned his bail application.
Lesley Motleleng appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Monday morning.
Zozo's body was found near her home in the East Rand township in June. She had been sexually assaulted with a toilet brush and died from internal injuries.
It's believed the 26-year-old was attacked because she was lesbian.
Her family, friends and members of the Thokoza community filled the court room as Motleleng made his first appearance.
The crowd hurled abuse at the suspect when he took the stand, with some people shouting that he should rot in jail.
He has been remanded in custody and the case has been postponed to 10 December.
