CAPE TOWN - Mitchells Plain residents waited with bated breath as police forensic experts stepped up their search for two missing girls in the area.

But authorities came up empty-handed.

Four-year-old Shaskia Michaels went missing early last month.

She was last seen outside her home, playing with friends.

Two men questioned in connection with her disappearance have since been released, but authorities are still looking for a man named Robert Sylvester, whom they believe can help find her.

The City of Cape Town has offered a R50,000 reward for any information which could help authorities.

Shaskia's neighbour, five-year-old Kauthar Bobbs, disappeared while playing at a nearby park in October last year. She has been missing ever since.

Officers started digging at various locations near the girls'homes, while sniffer dogs tried to help find clues at the weekend.
