JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng provincial government has organised celebrations around the city for Sunday to honour the birthday of the late Albertina Sisulu.

On Saturday night, a dinner and a memorial lecture were held in Rosebank to honour the struggle icon.

Government spokesperson Thebe Mohatle says this is to recognise the important role Sisulu played in the development of the country.

"It's a worthy cause and it's something that South Africans can actually appreciate and collectively express a word of thanks to the late Albertina Sisulu."
