Philippi fire leaves at least 60 homeless
More than 20 homes have been destroyed by a fire in the Browns Farm informal settlement.
CAPE TOWN - At least 60 people have been left homeless after a fire ripped through the Brown's Farm informal settlement in Philippi in the Western Cape on Saturday.
The blaze started in the early hours of the morning.
Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes says a large number of homes were destroyed.
"As a result of the strong winds that prevailed overnight, it's estimated that over 20 structures were burned down to the ground."
He says it is not yet known what caused the fire.
There have been no reports of deaths or injuries.
