JOHANNESBURG - The Commission for Gender Equality on Saturday welcomed the arrest of a man in connection to the rape and murder case of Duduzile Zozo.

The 26-year-old lesbian woman's body was discovered in Thokoza, South East of Johannesburg, after she was killed in June this year.

Her family and friends believe she was targeted because of her sexual orientation.

The Commission of Gender Equality's Javu Baloyi said "we applaud the police for their timeless effort in ensuring that the alleged perpetrator is arrested. This also brings confidence to society and we cannot be happier than this as the gender commission".

The 22-year-old man is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates' Court on Monday.
