Katlehong murders: Mom to appear in court
The mother allegedly poisoned her two young daughters.
JOHANNESBURG - A 26-year-old mother is expected to appear in the Heidelberg Magistrates' Court on Friday on two counts of murder.
The mother allegedly poisoned her one- and three-year-old daughters.
The two sisters were found on Wednesday next to their young mother who was in a critical condition.
She initially accused the father of her children of poisoning them but a police investigation found she had provided false information.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini says several witnesses were questioned and their information was inconsistent with the mother's information.
"We believe the motive for the crime is a domestic issue between the mother and the father. The mother allegedly poisoned the children and also tried to kill herself."
The father of the two girls has been assisting the police with information.
Dlamini added several witnesses were interviewed, including the father of the girls.
"The statement that was given by the mother was wrong and we have statements from the father and the parents of the suspect, who said the father was not there when the children died."
