‘Gautrain expansion to aid economy’
If the expansion plan is approved construction will begin in five years’ time.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) says Gautrain's proposed expansion project could boost business and the Gauteng economy.
Gautrain hopes to extend its routes to the south of Johannesburg, the east and the West Rand to ensure more people opt for rail instead of road transport.
If government approves the plan construction will begin in five years' time.
Sacci's Pietman Roos said, "The Gautrain has proven it works very well and if a province integrates more effectively in terms of transport, it helps economic growth, so it looks promising."
