Katlehong deaths: mother a suspect
The Katlehong woman found alive next to her two dead children faces arrest.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say the mother of the two toddlers who were found dead in Katlehong on the East Rand will be arrested once she is discharged from hospital.
The two sisters, aged one and three, were found dead on Wednesday morning.
Police have confirmed to Eyewitness News the 26-year-old woman is under police guard in hospital.
The woman has accused her husband of poisoning her and their children. But the police believe she is involved in the double murder.
Police have since located the father of the two children and have already taken his statement.
His wife, who is in a critical condition in hospital, has told the police that she believes he poisoned her children by giving them juice.
According to the young mother, the man then left her and the toddlers on the side of the road after they'd had a fight over his alleged infidelity.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini says, "The mother has been detained and is under police guard."
A post mortem will reveal what led to the death of the two young girls.
