CAPE TOWN - A state pathologist on Wednesday told the Swellendam Circuit Court excessive force was used to mutilate Bredasdorp teenager Anene Booysen.

The court heard in graphic detail the injuries the 17-year-old sustained during her savage attack in February.

Johannes Kana is charged with her rape and murder.

Tygerberg pathologist Karisha Quarrie testified the teenager died after being severely mutilated.

She said a foreign object was used to disembowel Booysen.

Quarrie said a lot of force was used.

On Tuesday, two doctors who treated Booysen told the court the intestinal injuries she sustained were the worst they had ever seen.

Kana has admitted to punching and kicking Booysen, before raping her.

But he denies killing her.

The trial resumes on Thursday.
