ANC MP van der Merwe resigns
Sue van der Merwe says she is still a National Executive Committee and ANC member.
CAPE TOWN - Sue van der Merwe has resigned as a Member of Parliament (MP), the ANC confirmed on Tuesday.
The former deputy minister of international relations handed in her Parliamentary security tags earlier today.
She has been an MP for almost 18 years, serving the last three as a member of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry.
Van der Merwe says her resignation is not a vote of no-confidence in the ruling party.
"I remain a member of the ANC and I remain an elected member of the national executive committee."
Van der Merwe says her first step will be to take a break.
She will then try and track her roots in Scotland and wants to find out why her great-grandparents decided to leave that country.
