Sassa cards used to secure loans
Sassa says beneficiaries are using their cards as a guarantee to get loans.
CAPE TOWN - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) on Tuesday said it does not have any relationship with companies who are handing out loans to beneficiaries.
The agency says it is aware that beneficiaries are using their cards as a guarantee to get loans.
Money is then apparently taken from accounts once monthly grants are received.
Sassa's Frank Earl says, "There is no company that Sassa is part of. We have received complaints that people have been borrowing money and buying airtime off Sassa cards."
The agency is investigating these companies.
