CAPE TOWN - The Golden Lions and Free State Cheetahs each claimed victory and the last semi-finals in the ABSA Currie Cup.

Both sides only needed a few log points to secure the remaining semis

The Lions beat a spirited Griquas side 35-28 at Ellis Park which saw them climb to 26 log points and temporarily moved them to third in the rankings.

In Bloemfontein, the Blue Bulls needed a big win to move them into fourth place, but the Cheetahs took control of the game early in the match and never let go.

The Free State team won 22-7 which meant both sides had 26 points.

This resulted in their log positions being determined by the best points' difference in the matches contested between them.

In the final round robin fixture of the season, Western Province overcame the Sharks in Durban to secure top spot on the log and a home final should they win their semi-final.

The final score at Kings Park was 17-13 to the team from the Cape.

The final standings mean the Cheetahs will travel to Durban next weekend to take on the Sharks in the one semi-final while Newlands will be the venue for the Western Province and Lions clash.
