More violence at Mangaung prison
Inmates at the Mangaung Correctional Centre stabbed two prison officials and a fellow convict.
JOHANNESBURG - Officials from the Department of Correctional Services on Thursday said they are concerned with the situation at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
This after another incident of violence was reported at the prison.
Two prison officials and an inmate were stabbed and wounded by prisoners on Thursday.
Just last week, a female guard from private security company G4S was held hostage by four inmates.
Several officials were also stabbed in separate incidents.
The Department of Correctional Services on Wednesday announced it would take over operations at the facility.
The special management team's Zacharia Modise says the prison's security is not up to standard.
"When we conducted searches today, we realised that there were a number of problems that offenders have been hiding.
"We found sharpened toothbrushes, sharpened nails and pieces of wire."
