Voter registration drive begins
The Independent Electoral Commission is hoping to register 2 million new voters.
JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Wednesday called on South Africans to check their voter registration details next month ahead of 2014 polls.
The commission officially launched the election campaign in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.
Two million new voters are being targeted during registration weekend.
IEC chairperson Pansy Tlakula says even registered voters should consider visiting registration centres.
"The registration weekend can also be used by all registered voters as an opportunity to inspect their details on the voters' roll.
"Voters who have moved since their last registration are, as usual, called on to register in their new voting districts."
The voter registration weekend will take place on 9 and 10 November.
