Ministry to visit New Eisleben High School
A 17-year-old pupil was stabbed to death on school grounds last week.
CAPE TOWN - The Police Ministry on Thursday said it will visit a Nyanga school where a learner was stabbed to death on the school grounds.
The stabbing took place at the New Eisleben High School in Crossroads last week.
Anele Mlawuli was stabbed by three boys after assembly.
He later died in hospital.
The ministry says the visit is aimed at reinforcing a 2011 school safety agreement with the Department of Basic Education.
Meanwhile, an after-school programme has been launched in gang-ravaged Manenberg to help get youngsters off the streets.
The area was in the spotlight recently after several schools had to close due to the ongoing gang violence.
The Western Cape Department of Arts and Culture is involved in the programme.
Singers, a group of hip hop dancers and artists all demonstrated their skills to pupils who cheered them on.
The department hopes the performers will inspire the learners.
