JOHANNESBURG - Controversial afro-pop singer Kelly Khumalo was granted R500 bail in the Hillbrow Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning.

The songstress and her sister Zandile were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting the wife of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The alleged assault took place on the M1 highway in August.

The sisters handed themselves over to the Hillbrow police station.

The police's Lungelo Dlamini confirmed a case of assault was opened by Mandisa Meyiwa.

It's alleged the award-winning singer and reality TV star assaulted Meyiwa after she found the couple chatting in a car near Empire Road.

It's also alleged her sister joined in.

The pair is expected back in court on 31 October.

They face charges of assault, reckless and negligent driving and damage to property.

Khumalo has a son with hip hop artist Molemo 'Jub Jub' Maarohanye, who was convicted for murder last year.

Her biography, The Kelly Khumalo Story, revealed details of their abusive relationship.
