JOHANNESBURG - A primary school pupil accused of assaulting his teacher at a Johannesburg school will appear before a disciplinary committee this morning.

It's understood the 14-year-old grade 7 pupil at the Jim Fouche Primary School in Crosby punched his 41-year-old female teacher in the face last week after he was asked to take off his jersey because it was not part of the school uniform.

The boy was immediately placed under a seven-day suspension by the Gauteng Department of Education.

Over the past few weeks, several schools have been in the spotlight following incidents of violence against teachers.

In the most recent incident at the Glenvista High School, a pupil assaulted his teacher with a chair and broom while his classmates filmed the attack.

The Glenvista pupil, along with 14 others, have been suspended.

The boy and his classmates face disciplinary hearings in the coming days.

Shortly after the video went viral, a Sasolburg High School teacher was allegedly shot in the leg by a 15-year-old boy who had brought a gun to school.
