Commuter dies after being hit by a rock
The 12-year-old girl was travelling on a Metrorail train towards Khayelitsha.
CAPE TOWN - A girl died after she was hit by a rock thrown at a train travelling towards Khayelitsha, Metrorail revealed on Monday.
The 12-year-old died at Cape Town's Tygerberg Hospital following last Thursday's incident.
The rail operator said at least five separate stoning incidents have been reported on the Khayelitsha line in recent weeks.
Four people were injured in total.
Metrorail Western Cape regional manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said naughty children are to blame for the stonings.
"These are children, some of them as young as five-years-old, who are involved in these incidents which have such grave consequences."
