JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will defend its right to erect billboards along Gauteng's highways after it claimed responsibility for the latest anti e-toll campaign.

The ANC has slammed the billboards which read, "E-tolls. Proudly brought to you by the ANC."

But the DA's Mmusi Maimane says the public needs to know that the ANC supports e-tolling.

"We're saying the ANC must come clean about the fact that they were completely behind tolling, they were supportive of it and in fact the people from Gauteng must know."

Maimane said his party will continue to support the battle against e-tolls.

Meanwhile, the ANC has accused the DA of flouting electoral laws ahead of the 2014 general elections and has said it plans to approach the Independent Electoral Commission.
