CAPE TOWN - Three teenage boys who have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 17-year-old boy are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The incident took place on the grounds of New Eisleben High School earlier this week.

The pupil, who was in grade eight, died in hospital a short while after he was stabbed by three other learners who attend the same school.

The Western Cape Education Department says reports indicate the incident is gang-related.

While the suspects have been detained, the department says plans are being made for the learners at the school to receive counselling.

Security measures at the school are currently being assessed.

In March, an 18-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly stabbing a pupil to death on a bus.

In another incident in September, a 16-year-old pupil was stabbed with scissors in his chest at Northpine Technical High School.
