Mobilise own resources - Dlamini-Zuma
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says a key impediment to growth on the continent is poor infrastructure.
CAPE TOWN - African Union Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says the continent needs to mobilise its own resources to kick start and speed up development.
She was speaking at the 14th annual Steve Biko memorial lecture at the University of Cape Town on Wednesday evening.
Dlamini-Zuma says if Africa has learnt anything from the last 50 years is that it has to mobilise its own resources to finance development.
"We can't continue to develop grand narratives or policy frameworks and then go around with a begging bowl to get them financed by others."
She said a key impediment to growth on the continent is poor infrastructure.
"Our fourth continental priority is the acceleration of infrastructure development."
Dlamini-Zuma concluded by saying there can't be development without there being peace on the continent.
