Pistorius hires American forensic specialists

The Blade Runner will go on trial in March for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

JOHANNESBURG - Paralympic athlete and murder accused Oscar Pistorius's spokesperson has confirmed a team of forensic investigators from America are in the country working with his defence team.

_Beeld _newspaper reported the team arrived on Monday and was assisting his lawyers.

Pistorius is accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day at his Pretoria home.

He says he mistook her for an intruder and shot her accidentally.

He will go on trial in March next year.

Pistorius's spokesperson Anneliese Burgess said, "We can confirm that a team of forensic specialists from the United States is currently in the country working with Oscar's defence team. We don't want to go into any further details except to say it's very standard practice to work with specialists in various fields in preparations for any trial."

The Blade Runner is currently out on bail.

The Police Ministry has also maintained the investigation was conducted thoroughly despite allegations of bungling the case.
