No cash for SA drug mule repatriation
Drug mule Esther Madonsela passed away last week in the Klong Prem Central Prison.
CAPE TOWN - The family of a South African woman, who died in a Thai prison, says it is financially unable to have her body repatriated.
Drug mule Esther Madonsela passed away last week in the Klong Prem Central Prison following a long illness.
It is believed the 27-year-old suffered from severe headaches, fever and possibly tuberculosis.
Relative Dale Mavuka says authorities informed them it will cost thousands to have her body brought back home to Rustenburg.
"It will cost R17,000 to bring back her body or R9,000 if she's cremated. The family doesn't have that money."
Over 300 South African women are currently imprisoned in foreign countries for drug trafficking.
Authorities have warned women against falling prey to drug traffickers.
