An "unconventional" Soweto tour
Soweto's Kgomosto Pooe has a new take on traditional South African Soweto.
Born and bred in Soweto, Kgomotso Pooe has partnered with the hop on hop off red topless busses of Johannesburg to take locals and foreigners through the back streets of Soweto and to the main attractions to enjoy some traditional food and drink.
The "Sowetoo hop on and hop off tour" minibus takes visitors via the Hector Pietersen memorial, Nelson Madela's house, the Orlando Stadium, to have their first 'gota loaf' or bunny chow or traditional burger at a local shebeen.
Pooe's claim to fame is bringing quad bikes to Soweto. Not just quad bikes but paint balling, boat rides, dirt bikes and more.
Pooe's studies, he said, are what gave him the opportunity to see Soweto in a different light and enabled him to identify new opportunities.
"I keep telling people you've got to get out the box to see within the box. Once you're in the box you get caught up in the same mix, the same thing every day, which seems like the norm.
"When you step outside and look in, you see life with a different pair of eyes. I see what people want to experience when they visit Soweto."
