JOHANNESBURG - A suspect has been shot dead in what appears to be another incident of robbers following their victims from OR Tambo International Airport.

It's understood a gang of five followed their victims to a home in Bryanston on Saturday where a shootout ensued and a diplomat is believed to have been wounded.

The diplomat was being transported to his daughter's house. Crime scene experts are on the scene.

The suspect's accomplices were detained in a police van in Magaliessig, Fourways. A firearm is lying in the street with empty bullet cases strewn over the pavement.

It's understood three suspects fled the scene with luggage, electronics and an undisclosed amount of money.

In a separate incident on Thursday an unknown number of men allegedly followed two businessmen to the bank and opened fire when they returned to the scrap yard on Thursday morning.

The police's Katlego Mogale says more arrests were also made on the scene.

"Two suspects were fatally wounded and three were arrested. "

Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) have urged victims of so-called follow-home robberies to help police with as much information as possible.
