Sasolburg teacher ‘recovering well’
The teacher was shot when trying to take away a gun from a 15-year-old pupil.
JOHANNESBURG - A Sasolburg High School teacher who was shot and wounded by a pupil is recovering well after surgery, the Free State Education Department said on Wednesday.
The teacher, who was shot in the right leg by a 15-year-old pupil on Friday, underwent surgery at Vanderbijlpark's Mediclinic Emfuleni.
According to officials, the teacher could be discharged on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
The teenager allegedly brought his grandfather's gun to school and threatened a female classmate.
A shot went off when the teacher tried to intervene.
The pupil was arrested and taken for psychological evaluation before appearing in the child justice court on Monday.
The boy was released and placed in the care of his parents.
