SANParks denies allegations of mismanagment
An NGO has lodged a complaint with Thuli Madonsela alleging mismanagement at SANParks.
JOHANNESBURG - The Public Protector has received a request to investigate the salaries of South African National Parks' (SANParks) top management, but Thuli Madonsela has not seen this document herself.
It's been reported that Aikona, an environmental NGO, has lodged a complaint through Madonsela's office alleging mismanagement at SANParks.
However, SANParks spokesperson, Wanda Mkutshulwa, says the park has not been informed about this complaint.
"If they think there's anything that's worthy of being investigated we'd like to invite those people to approach the courts."
Meanwhile, SANParks have called Aikona to rather test their allegations in court than to abusing the already overburdened office of Madonsela.
Mkutshulwa says Aikona is using the wrong platform to raise their allegations.
"If there's merit in their claims, these should be things that should be properly tested in court rather than abusing an already overstretched and under-sourced government institution."
