CAPE TOWN - Bad weather will not affect this weekend's The Two Oceans Hermanus Whale Festival, organisers said on Friday.

Thousands of visitors are flocking to the small town in a bid to get a glimpse of the giant sea mammals.

The annual event, now in its 22nd year, kicked off today and will continue until Tuesday.

Event CEO Leon Theron says visitors can look forward to a number of activities.

"We are having live entertainment throughout the festival. There are 14 venues around Hermanus and we've got tons of sports events, including mountain bike racing, running, and lots of educational and amusement activities for the little ones."
