'Dr Dodge' expected in court
Dr Ganesh Anirudhra faces 319 charges of fraud and will appear in court next month.
CAPE TOWN - The case against Doctor Ganesh Anil Anirudhra who is facing more than 300 charges of fraud, will resume in court next month.
An investigation revealed Doctor Anirudhra has been illegally practicing as a gynaecologist in Cape Town for several months while facing 319 fraud charges in another province.
Anirudhra is also not registered.
He was arrested at the Dr George Mukari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa last year for allegedly defrauding medical aid schemes and the Labour Department's compensation fund between 2008 and 2012.
His case will resume in the Brits Magistrate Court next month for plea and trial.
The department's Twana Makhubela said, "We asked him if he could give us evidence that he'd treated certain people and he couldn't provide proof, that's how we discovered he'd been defrauding us."
Anirudhra was also previously convicted of fraud and was erased from the medical register for improper conduct and then placed on probation.
According Health Professions Council of South Africa's Ernie Janzen, Anirudhra was allowed to re-register in 2007, but on probation.
He was supposed to have been reviewed annually, but two years ago he dropped off the radar.
The council has promised to take action against him.
