'Dr Dodge' surfaces as gynae
A doctor who faces 319 charges of fraud has been illegally practicing as a gynaecologist in CT.
CAPE TOWN - It's emerged a doctor, who faces more than 300 charges of fraud, has been illegally practicing in Cape Town as a gynaecologist.
A Carte Blanche investigation revealed Doctor Ganesh Anil Anirudhra moved to the Western Cape after being granted R20,000 bail in his medical aid fraud case.
Doctor Anirudhra purports to be both a general practitioner and a gynaecologist.
While it appears he began a medical master's degree in gynaecology at the Medical University of South Africa in 2010, he never finished.
A SHADY PAST
Anirudhra was arrested by the Hawks in December last year for allegedly defrauding medical aid schemes and the Department of Labour's compensation fund between 2008 and 2012.
At the time Anirudhra had been working at the Dr George Mukari Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa.
While the Hawks gave him permission to move provinces, they were surprised to learn he was practising as a gynaecologist.
Anirudhra was also previously convicted of fraud and was erased from the medical register for improper conduct and then placed on probation.
According Health Professions Council of South Africa's Ernie Janzen, Anirudhra was allowed to re-register in 2007, but on probation.
He was supposed to have been reviewed annually, but two years ago he dropped off the radar.
Tarryn Holloway, a mother who took her son to see Anirudhra at his Cape Town practice was horrified when she found out the truth about him.
"I want to sue him and I want to get all my money back. Somewhere along the line he needs to have a conscience."
Anirudhra had also practiced in the United Kingdom (UK) for a while, but was kicked off the register for moonlighting.
