Masina calls for land transfer
Mzwandile Masina used ANCYL's 69th birthday celebrations to call for the transfer of land to the people.
JOHANNESBURG - The Convenor of the ANC Youth League's national task team Mzwandile Masina has used the league's 69th birthday celebrations to call for the transfer of land to the people.
Masina addressed about 20 thousand people at the Seshego stadium in Polokwane earlier today and presented a list of demands to government.
He called for clarity on a recent land audit which found that more than 70 percent of the country's land is still privately owned.
Masina says the Surveyor General Muso Riba must clarify who the private individuals are who own the majority of South Africa's land.
"What constitutes private hands? Is it foreign, is it white male, where is this land because we want this land to be transferred to our people for agricultural and other purposes."
Masina also told the former league president and Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba that state owned enterprises (SOE)'s must surrender land that's not being utilised.
"Many of our SOE's continue to keep land that they are not doing anything about. We want them to surrender that land to government for development purposes."
But he stopped short of calling for the expropriation of land without compensation - which is a key policy of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
