Cape Town has been chosen for a stopover for the 2014 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race.
CAPE TOWN - Cape Town has been chosen for a stopover for the 2014 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race.
Brazil was initially meant host that leg, but the team was not ready.
According to the statistics, the marketing exposure for Cape Town was estimated at R78.8million for the 2011/12 event.
The race's Chief Operating Officer Tom Touber said, "If the team from Brazil doesn't materialise, the situation changes. We've already got one stopover in Brazil."
He says they are expecting an exciting race.
"We're going to have more boats and we expect that the race will be more competitive. In the past, teams could spend a lot more money like you see in America's Cup and in Formula One. This time, all the boats are the same so it's just up to the achievements of the crew."
