Couple die in shack fire

The blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning destroying at least 70 shacks.

JOHANNESBURG - Investigations are underway into a fire that's left two dead in the Kya Sand informal settlement northwest of Johannesburg.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning destroying at least 70 shacks.

A total of 150 people have been displaced by the fire.

It's believed it started in the couple's shack.

Emergency Service's Robert Mulaudzi said, "The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment however we are investigating."

Disaster management are trying to provide some relief for the affected families and are appealing for blankets, food and building material.
