Police arrest new suspect – gay murders
Another suspect who may be linked to a series of killings targeting homosexual men has been arrested.
JOHANNESBURG - Police have arrested another suspect, who may be linked to a series of killings targeting homosexual men in Gauteng and Cape Town.
Nhlanhla Msimango had been evading arrest for over a year and was detained after a hijacking in Dobsonville.
Police are investigating whether he is connected to the murder of Siphiwe Nhlapo after relatives of the victim identified him.
Nhlapo was found dead in his Kliptown home in September 2011. Police found that he had been strangled and that his face was covered in acid.
Police say that an investigating officer has been assigned to the case against Msimango to determine whether he is linked to the murders of eight gay men.
It is believed that Msimango murdered Siphiwe Nhlapo in 2011. The police have noted that the modus operandi was similar to that of the other victims.
The accused will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.
