City of Tshwane to install Madiba statue
A statue of the former president will be erected at the Union Buildings next year.
JOHANNESBURG - As former President Nelson Mandela continues to receive around the clock care at his Houghton home after being discharged from the Mediclinic Heart Hospital last week, it has been revealed that a statue of Madiba will be erected at the Union Building in Pretoria.
The erecting of the statue forms part of the Union Building's centenary celebrations.
The City of Tshwane's Blessing Manale says the capital city is very excited.
The figure is set to be unveiled in 2014.
"We are very excited that government has decided to install a statue in honour of the former president. We've been informed by the Presidency the statue will be unveiled as part of the countdown to the '20 years of freedom' celebration next year."
Meanwhile, the Presidency has not released any new updates on Madiba's condition since he was discharged.
It did however reiterate that the former president's condition remains critical and stable, but at times becomes unstable.
