JOHANNESBURG - Arguments will be heard at the Marikana Commission of Inquiry today over the application to have the hearings postponed.

The legal team representing the miners who were involved in the unprotected strike at the platinum mine last year are still trying to secure funding in order to present their case.

Advocate Dali Mpofu and his team have been denied state funding in order to continue representing the miners.

Government says the evidence leaders at the commission will adequately represent every party's case and private lawyers aren't necessary.

However, Mpofu says it's unfair that the police have private representation when the miners don't.

He has provisionally withdrawn and wants the hearings postponed until he can secure funding.

Meanwhile, the Citizens for Marikana organisation has already raised funds, but not enough to get Mpofu's team back to the inquiry.
