Doctors Without Borders in Khayelitsha
The medical group have opened a wellness hub in the disadvantaged community of Khayelitsha.
CAPE TOWN - Medical group Doctors Without Borders says it plans to open yet another wellness hub in a disadvantaged area in Cape Town.
The group launched its first facility in Khayelitsha's BM section yesterday.
The facility offers HIV and TB testing and screening for STI's and Diabetes among a range of medical conditions.
The group's John Ashmore says the initiative is part of a bid to improve the quality and access to healthcare services in under serviced areas.
He says the initiative will help reduce costs by diagnosing and treating diseases at an early stage.
"In Khayelitsha specifically, there's a very high density population which means the need is very high for more access to healthcare."
Ashmore says residents in the area have welcomed the facility.
"We've had a very positive response. We're getting about 400 patients a month at the moment coming in for a variety of services including family planning."
