CAPE TOWN - A Parliamentary committee will consider Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's report on Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Chairperson Pansy Tlakula.

The Public Protector found the IEC head acted in a grossly irregular way when securing new headquarters for the IEC.

Parliament received the report on Wednesday.

The IEC is accountable to Parliament, which must now take the matter further.

Once Madonsela's report has been tabled, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Max Sisulu will refer it to a multiparty committee.

That committee will then have to report back to the NA with recommendations on what should be done regarding Tlakula.

With Parliament in recess until early next month, it's unclear how long the process will take.
