JOHANNESBURG - Close to 40,000 men are expected to attend a rally against gender based violence at the Johannesburg stadium this morning.

The rally is dubbed "Not In My Name" and is aimed at publicly condemning violence against women and children.

The march is expected to be addressed by the Minister of Women Lulu Xingwana, the City of Joburg Mayor Parks Tau and the Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe.

Spokesperson for the Sonke Gender Justice Bafana Khumalo says it's critical for men to speak against gender based violence.

"It's important that men come out publicly and state that gender violence should not be done in the name of men and therefore hold each other accountable for those that deviate from this line."
