Child porn investigation intensifies
Authorities have obtained 30 search warrants as the investigation into the child porn syndicate intensifies.
JOHANNESBURG - Authorities are in the process of applying for more search warrants in order to make further arrests in connection with a massive international child pornography ring.
Last week, police arrested six men in connection with the child porn syndicate which has links to a number of other countries.
The suspects have already appeared in various courts across the country.
Police are investigating a total of 50 suspects and whether any South African children were involved.
They have so far issued 30 search warrants and are busy applying for 20 new ones.
The six people already arrested include two teachers, a retired principal, a lawyer, a dermatologist and a businessman.
DVDs, computers and memory sticks belonging to the six are now being analysed by investigators which could lead to more arrests within the next 14 days.
The police's Solomon Makgale says they are hoping to determine whether the evidence could link the suspects with one another.
"They did electronic transactions so there's no way they can reverse that. It's there. Our job is to find the evidence."
It's understood there have been several arrests in various European countries also linked to the syndicate.
