JOHANNESBURG - The family of a missing University of Johannesburg (UJ) student is appealing to the public to come forward with any information on her whereabouts.

20-year-old Palesa Madiba has been missing since last week Monday and it's believed she went missing while on her way to the UJ Soweto campus.

Surveillance footage at the university shows she never arrived there.

She was last seen visiting a friend in the Phiri area.

Cousin and family spokesperson Thabiso Tsoledi says they have now exhausted all avenues.

"The family members are breaking down, I know her mother's breaking down now. It's just not good at all. We obviously tried all we could do; we feel at some points we've tried so many things and we don't know what to try anymore."

Meanwhile, the police's Mpande Khoza says little progress has been made.

"So far, we haven't found any information but we are working hard with the family and others who are close to the lady."
