Unite4Mandela event thrills spectators

A series of soccer and rugby matches set the agenda before things wrapped up with a concert.

FNB STADIUM - Fans and spectators packed the FNB Stadium on Saturday night, saying the unity displayed at the Unite4Mandela event was commendable.

A series of matches by the national rugby and soccer teams set the agenda before things wrapped up with a star studded concert.

The music line up including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Elvis Blue and Salif Keita kept the crowd on their feet.

The Calabash, graced by a diverse mix of proud South Africans who have commended organisers for an event that will remain in the hearts of many for years to come.

The initiative is a unique way to celebrate Nelson Mandela.

"This is one of the greatest ways of honouring Mandela and I had such great fun with sports and music brought together," said one fan.

"Those are the things that make South Africa."

All proceeds from the event go to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital.
