Jantjies aims to roar once more
Johan Ackerman believes Elton Jantjies will get his form back while playing for the Lions
JOHANNESBURG - Golden Lions coach Johan Ackermann is confident Elton Jantjies will return to his best now that he's back in Johannesburg.
The talented flyhalf moved to Cape Town on a loan deal with the Stormers to play Super Rugby, but has returned to Johannesburg to play in the Currie Cup.
While Jantjies failed to impress in the Cape and looked like a shadow of his former self, Ackermann believes it won't take long for him to dominate play once again.
"He was out of our system for eight months. He told me he missed home, his brother, his mom and his environment. I think it wasn't easy for him to adapt in Cape Town and hopefully, as the Currie Cup progresses, he can play like the Elton we know and we can get him back in the Springbok side."
Ackermann has decided to start Jantjies at flyhalf for Friday's clash with the Sharks and move Marnitz Boshoff to fullback.
"It is a tactical move from our side. Marnitz is a points machine so it's good to have him on the field. He also shows a lot of promise in the way we want to play from the fullback position and with Elton's attacking ability and left foot, and Martnitz' attacking from the back with the right foot, that combination will be good for us."
The match between the Lions and Sharks starts at 7:05pm on Friday.
