Drotske expects WP scrumming backlash

Western Province struggled in their scrums against the Blue Bulls last weekend

CAPE TOWN - Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske says they're expecting a backlash from Western Province in the scrums in their Absa Currie Cup clash this weekend.

The Bulls dominated Province in the scrums in their 24-24 draw last week.

But Drotske, himself a former hardened forward, says his charges are expecting a vast improvement from Province's forwards.

"We worked really hard on our own scrums and lineouts, but we also put a lot of work in analysing our opponents. Western Province will make a step-up this week and would have worked really hard on their scrums. We expect quite a tough battle upfront from them.

"Every week the plan is to get our own set piece right and to put a lot of pressure on the opposition. That won't change this week as it has been the plan since the Super 15 [tournament]."

The Cheetahs travel to Newlands to take on Western Province at 7:15pm on Saturday.
