Mango: Theft will not be tolerated
Mango has sacked a number of its employees for their involvement in an in-flight crime syndicate.
JOHANNESBURG - Mango says criminal activity by its employees will not be tolerated.
The airline's spokesperson,Hein Kaiser, was speaking in response to its sacking of a number of its cabin crew members in Johannesburg and Cape Town for their part in an apparent crime syndicate.
It's understood the group conspired to defraud the airline of the takings of its in-flight catering services.
The airline says it launched an investigation after money made from the sale of food and drinks on its flights came under suspicion.
Kaiser said dishonesty is simply not acceptable.
"For us it's really simple and cut and dried. If you are dishonest and you understand the company policies, then you know that you will be disciplined and ultimately you have to suffer the consequences of your own actions."
Kaiser said the company needed to take a firm stance on the issue.
"There were quite a number of cabin crew members who were disciplined and subsequently dismissed as a consequence of dishonesty on board. From a company perspective, it's important for us to take action and to show that we have zero tolerance to this behaviour."
The Business Day newspaper reported at least 24 crew members were dismissed.
