Beast should be fit for Saturday

Heyneke Meyer is confident that Tendai Mtawarira will be fit for the Boks game against Argentina.

Tendai "Beast" Mtwawarira is expected to be fit for Saturday

JOHANNESBURG - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer says he is confident that Tendai Mtawarira will be fit enough to play against Argentina on Saturday.

Mtawarira is nursing a hamstring strain, the only injury concern ahead of the clash at the FNB Stadium.

Meyer says despite a number of other minor niggles in the squad he's happy with the overall condition of his players.

"I was worried about Beast but I am really happy to have him back. He will probably be fit so I think we are in great condition. There are a lot of other guys who are injured, but I am very happy with the squad that played in the incoming tours."

Meyer says scrumming will be a major focus point for his side this week. It will be the first time the Boks play under the new scrum engagement law that requires front row forwards to bind before the actual scrumming commences.

Meyer says even though he has studied tapes of the new laws practice makes perfect.

"We believe we want to take our scrums forward so we are going to do scrums every single day. Last week we did a lot of theory and video work so a few of the guys did a lot of training, but this week we are going to scrum every day and some days we will do double sessions."

Meyer adds this is to make sure they don't concede costly penalties in the match.

"I am positive that the guys will be there on Saturday, but you only find out once you are in the game and then you can rectify things. It is going to be interesting to see how it goes, but I believe that we will do well."

The Springboks' first game of the Rugby Championship against Argentina kicks off at 5pm at the FNB Stadium.
