Mango sacks thieving crew members
Mango says 'quite a number' of its staff were sacked in line with their zero-tolerance policy.
JOHANNESBURG - Mango has sacked a number of its cabin crew members in Johannesburg and Cape Town for participating in an apparent syndicate.
It's understood the group conspired to defraud the airline of the takings of its in-flight catering services.
The airline says it launched an investigation after the amount of money made from the sale of food and drinks on its flights came under suspicion.
Mango's Hein Kaiser says the company needed to show it would not accept ill-disciplined staff.
"There were quite a number of cabin crew who were disciplined and subsequently dismissed as a consequence of dishonesty on-board. From a company perspective, it's important for us to take action and to show that we have zero-tolerance to this behaviour."
The Business Day newspaper reported at least 24 crew members were dismissed.
